China’s yuan strengthened to around 6.6950 per dollar, its strongest level in more than 3½ years, as the People’s Bank of China appeared more comfortable with gradual currency appreciation. The move comes ahead of the Trump-Xi summit scheduled for September 23–25, where trade, artificial intelligence and supply chains are expected to feature prominently. The PBOC set its daily midpoint at 6.7487, also its strongest since February 2023.
