US President Donald Trump has once again claimed that Israel might not exist today without his intervention against Iran’s nuclear programme, reviving a controversial argument over his administration’s role in the Middle East conflict and the broader US-Israel security relationship.

Speaking on conservative commentator Glenn Beck’s programme on August 26, Trump argued that Iran would have obtained a nuclear weapon had he not withdrawn the United States from the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement and subsequently authorised military action against Iranian nuclear facilities. He said that, without his presidency, “there would be no Israel right now.”

Trump Links Israel’s Survival to Iran Nuclear Policy

Trump’s latest comments centre on his long-standing opposition to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the 2015 agreement negotiated under former President Barack Obama. The agreement placed limits on Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief.

Trump withdrew the US from the agreement during his first presidency, arguing that it failed to permanently prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. He has repeatedly presented that decision as a crucial step in preventing Iran from becoming a nuclear power.

During his latest remarks, Trump claimed that Iran would have developed a nuclear weapon and used it against Israel if the United States had not taken action. He described the previous nuclear agreement as a pathway that could eventually have allowed Tehran to acquire nuclear capabilities.

The claim is part of a broader narrative Trump has used throughout the current Middle East crisis. In June, he similarly said that Israel would not exist without his intervention, arguing that no previous US president had been willing to take the measures he considered necessary against Iran.

Military Action Has Become Central to Trump’s Argument

Trump has also pointed to US military operations against Iran as evidence supporting his position. In June, he said the US strikes had prevented Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and argued that Israel and potentially the wider Middle East would have faced catastrophic consequences otherwise.

However, assessments of the effectiveness and consequences of those strikes remain contested. FactCheck.org noted that claims that Iranian nuclear facilities had been completely destroyed overstated the available evidence, with experts and intelligence assessments indicating significant damage but not necessarily the total elimination of Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

This distinction is important for financial markets because geopolitical statements involving Iran, Israel and the United States can influence expectations for oil supplies, regional stability, inflation and global risk sentiment.

Geopolitical Tensions Remain Important for Forex Markets

For traders following Forex News, the renewed rhetoric is significant because developments involving the Middle East can affect the US dollar, oil-linked currencies and safe-haven assets.

Escalation between the United States and Iran could increase demand for traditional safe-haven assets such as the US dollar and gold, while renewed concerns surrounding energy supplies could put pressure on economies heavily dependent on imported energy.

The Strait of Hormuz is particularly important to global markets. Any disruption to energy shipments through the region could increase crude oil prices and raise inflation expectations, potentially influencing central-bank interest-rate decisions and currency valuations.

For FX news traders, the key issue is therefore not only Trump’s political statement but whether his comments lead to concrete changes in US foreign policy, military activity, sanctions or negotiations with Iran.

What Trump’s Statement Means for Global Markets

Trump’s latest claim reinforces the connection between US foreign policy and financial-market risk. Investors will continue watching developments involving Iran’s nuclear programme, Israel, US military policy and regional energy supplies.

For now, Trump continues to frame his Iran strategy as essential to Israel’s security. His repeated assertion that Israel would not exist without his intervention is likely to remain part of the political debate surrounding the conflict.

For traders and investors, however, the larger question is whether escalating Geopolitics News translates into further military confrontation or diplomatic progress. Any significant shift could rapidly affect oil, gold, the US dollar and broader global risk sentiment.
